Just in case some of the residents of Colonial Hills don't know, Wal-Mart is trying to build a store on the corner of Rt 54 and Grand Blvd. Many of us do not want it in that location for a few simple reasons.

1. Traffic. there will be potentially 1,400 cars per hour going through SR54 and Grand Blvd between 4 pm and 6pm.
2. The overflow of traffic will use Dove Drive to get to Madison or Woodcock to the east and Pensdale to the west to get to SR54.
3. Safety. Kids play on the streets, people walk on those roads.
4. Traffic will be a concern to the school on Madison
5. Auto Insurance rates will go up because of the proximity to Wal-Mart.
6. The noise level to the folks living closest to it will increase as well as the bright lights.
7. Crime has become an issue with all Wal-Marts. What about sex offenders they will employ?
8. Fish and Wildlife Commission issued an Incidental take Permit to buldoze all the gophers, tortises and the co-habiting wildlife that go with it, burying them alive.
9. This store could put the small business and grocery stores out of business.
10. This site will be 4.3 miles from the store on Little and 54, 6 miles from the Tarpon store, 5.6 miles from the Ridge Road store and just a little ore a mile to the Sam's Club store.

A little background:

     Pasco County was obligated to send one notice to all residents within a certain square foot radius of the property that Wal-Mart wanted to build on. That was supposedly done in January 2005 stating that the meeting in February would be the meeting to come to if there were any objections. No one remembers recieving that notice. Earl Scheel, President of the Association, had been watching the progress since 2004 of this Wal-Mart and went to many of the DRC meetings waiting for it to come to discussion. After 15 months and 6 continuances it finally came up for discussion, but no one was there from the neighborhood. Thankfully Schueyller Ellis from WARN was there and he made an objection for us.

Show/Hide comments Installation of Speed Bumps on Walmart affected St : cross123 If this Walmart goes up, I would like to request that Speed Bumps be installed on my street and here's why: I just moved in to the Colonial Hills neighborhood this year with my husband and third grade son. We live on Madison Street right across from Anclote Elementary School. We are the next thru street from Moog to sr54, after Grand. There is even an offical blue street sign on Moog with an arrow pointing the way right up our street to sr54. Even presently, it appears that no one in our neighborhood is concerned that fast moving traffic is being directed right thru the School Zone. If this Walmart goes up, more traffic will use Madison as an alternate to Grand! I'm afraid that an already dangerous situation for our students will become worse. I've already seen that cars drive dangerously fast down Madison in spite of the school signs. The corner of Madison and Moog is extremely busy and dangerous for crossing children, even with the crossing guards - drivers are in too much of a hurry to watch for children. It is ridiculous. Can we petition Walmart and/or the city to install speed bumps on Madison Street and any other streets that will be affected by the Walmart traffic? Posted on: Tuesday, December 05, 2006 at 11:42PM.
