     WARN is an organization that works with local residents to ensure that proposed Wal-Mart developments are appropriate and beneficial to local communities. Often, that means simply stopping proposed Wal-Marts from being built in places where local residents don't want them -- but not always: WARN's goals in a site fight are determined by the wishes of local residents.

Resistance is Growing

     The City Council of New Port Richey decided to PASS a resolution to be sent to the Pasco County Commission opposing the development of the Wal-Mart on Grand Blvd and SR54. The Council's opinions were ver strong about Wal-Mart and Big Box stores. Multiple residents from the City of New Port Richey also showed opposition to big box stores and the effect they have on their City. Safety Now and Residents of Westwood have offered their support. The opposition to this store is growing. Other individuals and organizations are joining the fight......

"I am afraid of what opening a new Walmart on Grand and SR-54 will do to the downtown New Port Richey businesses. The City has spent a lot of money redeveloping the downtown, and bringing n a Walmart this close will definitely make it harder for the businesses downtown to stay in business."

The County Commissioners will rule on the appeal
of the approval of the preliminary site plans.
