This has been quite a time for a lot of us this past month. A lot of us never have appreciated what Earl Scheel does for this organization until we have been without him. A lot of us especially his wife Jane, have been doing what we can to keep things going. It Is not an easy thing to do.

We had a very interesting meeting in October with Rep. Anderson speaking about insurance proiblems and the difficulties of trying to get anything done to resolve the situation. Following Rep. Anderson we had an abreviated meeting followed by our new Deputy Amy telling us what she is doing to keep Colonial Hills a good neighborhood. She handles police maters, but works closely with code enforcement on things that come under their jurisdiction. A little birdie told me she was very busy asfter our meeting writing many citations relating to illegal parking and other things. We congratulate her on this. Like it or not there are certain ordinances that should be obeyed. When they are not a warning is usual given, but if the same thing is repeated then a ticket is given. Warnings are not always given, a lot depends on the circumstances.

All the bathrooms have been painted and spruced up with new curtains. The 2 women’s bathrooms have new lights thanks to a couple of generous donations. The painting labor costs plus half the materials were also donated. Take a look next time you are at the club. We hope this is just the start of a lot of updating and making your clubhouse a nicer place. The ceiling lights in both rooms have also been worked on and are in much better shape than they were. Slowly but surely things are improving.

We are happy to say that we have at last attracted some younger people to become members. It is hoped that this is just the beginning of a long awaited trend. Ideas on events to appealk to younger people are welcome. If enough interest is there we will be happy to schedule evening events geared to the younger crowd. Such things as pool playing, dances suited to other than the older generation, and otyher things are hopefully coming. You younger people are asked to come to our meetings, join the club, get involved and help get these activities going. This civic assoiciation is open to ALL ages, not just retired people.

Pancake breakfasts are underway as are the spaghetti dinners. You sure get your money’s worth at both of these functions. Please note that the second soup & sandwich card party is scheduled this month. Come on out & bring a friend. This, like the aforementioned events, is not limited to members, but is open to the public. Give it a try you’ll enjoy yourself

Bingo is going very well. New players plus the regulars are making this a successful thing as well as being a lot of fun for the players. Don’t forget that good food at reasonable prices is available.

The Pinochle players (must be or become a member after a few visits) have increased their numbers. The bridge players, same requiremewnts, are also welcoming new players. Call the people in charge or in the case of pinochle, just show up.

I want to close by asking you to keep Earl in your prayers, if you are so inclined. I also hope that we will see a lot more at the breakfasts, dinners  and at the soup & salad card parties. It’s hoped to get enough help to make the soup & salad card parties a monthly affair. Think about becoming a volunteer. Call Phyllis at 938 5215 and tell her you want to help.
