We’re still fighting Wal-Mart!  We won the first tiny battle but this fight is far from over.

The commission set a new DRC meeting for Dec 12 at 9:30.  I know that most of us work during the day, but they aren’t budging with just a few of us sending requests for a change.  I urge you to call, write, go see your commissioner Anne Hildebrand or Development Review Manager Cindy Jolly and Biphin Pirekh County Engineer or County Administrator John Gallagher.  Ask for a later time.  Explain that the reason for the appeal... ...was because we wanted to participate in the process.  By making the time so early in the day they are again pushing the affected residents out of the process.  Ask if they want yet another appeal.  Ask what our recourse is.  Their emails will be at the bottom of this article.

Just in case they don’t change the time, make plans to take a sick day or whatever to be at this meeting.  They are making it early because they anticipate a HUGE crowd so let’s make sure they have one.  Bring something to eat and drink because it will be a LONG day.  The more people the better.

We have been meeting on Sats at the Moog Library to strategize.  It is important what is said at the DRC.  We have to make points and not just voice an opinion.  Opinions are like, well you know, everyone has one and the commission doesn’t care about opinions they wants facts to support a reason to turn Wal-Mart away.  We have facts and will gladly share with you at these meetings.  We have questions that will cause the Development Review Committee to stop and ask for answers from Wal-Mart.  They all know we don’t want it, what they are looking for is a reason to say No.  Right now we haven’t given them anything solid to base that decision on.  They are asking for our help.  I say we give it to them.  If you can’t make a Sat meeting, please let me or Gene Kelly know when a better time would be and we’ll try to set up a different day.

I have a peer review from a national traffic engineer that states the traffic study was wrong and flawed and should be sent back for further study.  I have pictures of Grand Blvd. flooded the other day after only an hour of rain.  What do you have that we can use as facts to build a solid case against building this store?

Wal-Mart is going to push hard to get lots of people to shop for Christmas, but if you can avoid Wal-Mart and go to any of the other wonderful stores locally instead it would help our cause.  One of the reasons they want to build this store is because the Little and 54 store is so crowded all the time they feel there are enough people to take care of another store so close.  We have done this to ourselves and now we have to undo it.  Target is right across the street and so is Ross, shop there for the season this year and see if you don’t have just as much fun and savings.

I don’t know what our Dec. meetings will be so call me or drive by my house at 3619 Galway Drive and look at the sign in the yard it will announce that week’s time and place.

Making it tough to fight Wal-Mart : BSWD
Why is Pasco County trying to keep the citizens of Colonial Hills away from the Development Review Committee (DRC) proceedings regarding the new Wal-Mart on State Road 54 and Grand Boulevard in New Port Richey? We won the fight to send the preliminary plans back to DRC for review because we did not have any input the first time around. They have rescheduled the hearing to Dec. 12, but they made it at 9:30 a.m., when most people are working...
